The Destruction of the Great Trees
The Destruction of the Great Trees is a tradition explaining both the subterranean passages around Caelor's Garden and part of the hostility between West Azcelani (16P) and South Azcelani (16P) peoples.
The trees
According to the legend, enormous trees once grew in West Azcelani (16P) lands. Their destruction left underground cavities where their roots had been, forming the tunnels beneath the landscape.
Conflicting interpretations
The destruction is attributed to the Southern Azcelani and remembered as a grievance by their western neighbours.
The same tradition gives a religious justification from the South Azcelani (16P): the trees had to be sacrificed to prevent the Hungry God from awakening, because the West Azcelani (16P) were not making sufficient offerings.
