Apocaloketl
Apocaloketl is a supernatural being associated with fire and volcanic activity. She is the sister of Chichinteki.
Origin and imprisonment
According to the tradition recorded alongside accounts of Merfolk, Apocaloketl and Chichinteki arose from destructive aspects discarded by the gods of fire and water.
When the gods attempted to contain them, Chichinteki escaped into the sea. [Apocaloketl], being of fire, could not follow him.
She was imprisoned beneath the earth and is said to briefly emerge through volcanic eruptions.
Servants and offerings
Apocaloketl transforms living creatures into fiery counterparts of Merfolk.
Some people throw victims into volcanoes to feed her and supply souls for these servants. Her brother Apocaloketl is also said to provide victims.
Mutite associated with her has a smoky appearance when light passes through it.
Regional knowledge
Accounts of Apocaloketl are particularly associated with the Blackpowder Territories. Her traditions are less widely known among pirates and coastal communities than those concerning Chichinteki and aquatic Merfolk.
