Fogswept Lands

The Fogswept Lands are a fog-bound coastal region that includes Freeport.

Coastal waters

Dense fog, coral reefs, rocky outcrops, and shipwrecks make navigation hazardous. The region is also known for its substantial Merfolk population.

The difficult approaches help protect Freeport. Large warships cannot safely approach the city through its surrounding shallows and obstructions.

Freeport uses audible signals in place of conventional lighthouses. People stationed around the approaches periodically play loud wind instruments in a call-and-response system.

Local knowledge is valuable: channels shift, visibility is unreliable, and a route suitable for one vessel may be impassable to a larger ship.
