St Smithens’ Chalice

St Smithens’[[St Smithens’ Chalice Chalice]] is a legendary golden cup associated with St Smithens, the Conquistadan buccaneer from Caelor's Garden.

Its origin is uncertain. It may be an ancient Azcelani artefact.

Luck and danger

The chalice granted St Smithens and his crew extraordinary luck, helping them acquire immense wealth.

That luck came with a dangerous cost: its beneficiaries were drawn into increasingly perilous situations in which supernatural good fortune was needed to prevent disaster.

St Smithens’ daughter Josephine Smithens recognised the danger and stopped drinking from it.

Disappearance

St Smithens and his crew vanished during their pursuit of a “treasure beyond measure” in the Blackpowder Territories.

Josephine Smithens survived and recorded her journeys in a journal, including information connected with St Smithens’ last known location.

The Disciples

The Disciples of Smithens seek to end the chalice’s curse. Their purpose includes recovering and destroying the vessel.

Josephine Smithens’s journal and a cryptic map are important to tracing St Smithens’ final journey. The existing accounts place a surviving map in St Smithens’ Catacombs.

Reputation

The chalice appears alongside St Smithens in illustrated stories of legendary swashbucklers. Treasure seekers such as Yarrsen have searched for it, and Rose is associated with an expedition concerning it.
