Josephine Smithens

Josephine was the daughter of St Smithens and travelled with his crew as their translator.

Recognition of the curse

Josephine recognised the danger of St Smithens’ Chalice and stopped drinking from it.

In the Blackpowder Territories, a South Azcelani (16P) seer from a settlement the crew had ravaged promised Smithens a “treasure beyond measure.” Josephine suspected a trap, but the expedition continued.

Abandonment

Josephine went into labour in the Blackpowder Territories (16P). St Smithens and his crew abandoned her in their pursuit of the treasure.

She never saw her father again and was unable to find him. Her account of the journey survived in Josephine's Journal.

Return to Caelor’s Garden

Josephine returned to Caelor's Garden, where she raised a family and worked to obscure the truth of St Smithens’ history.

She established a public religious diversion and a quieter, genuine church associated with the effort to recover St Smithens’ Chalice, destroy it, and end its curse.

Final years

Conquistadors (16P) searching for the chalice eventually found Josephine and extracted information from her, including a map associated with St Smithens’ last known location.

She died before fully explaining the map’s interpretation to her daughter.
