Real Life Analogues (16P)
#primer
Carrouban has many real-world inspirations. In general, the setting is themed around the Golden Age of Piracy (1650-1720), but more broadly covers the rough period between 1450-1720 in the real world.
However, despite drawing heavy inspiration from these periods, it's worth noting that Carrouban is deliberately taken from a trope-heavy pop culture understanding its core elements (pirates, Aztecs, Conquistadors, dinosaurs, etc.). "Walking the plank" is commonplace in Carrouban, even if rarely practiced in real life (if ever). In real life, the T-rex (Devouring Tyrant) and Stegosaurus were separated by 80 million years, but their analogues roam the world concurrently in Carrouban.
When historical accuracy and trope-adherence are in conflict, in almost all cases tropes win out - tropes trump truth!
