Faceless Queen

The Faceless Queen is a supernatural figure in a legend particularly associated with East Carrouban.

Her story concerns betrayal within marriage and the punishment of those who value possessions above the people who trust them.

The Queen was once the loving wife of a Conquistadan noble. When their home was ransacked, her husband escaped by boat. He left her behind to make room for his belongings. She was captured and sacrificed. As part of the rite, her face was torn away.

The legend says that she pursued her husband to the ends of the earth. When she found him, she tore off his face and compelled him to join her company of thralls.

The Faceless Queen now hunts others who betray their wives’ trust, especially through greed or the pursuit of pleasure. Her victims lose their faces and become members of her thrall crew.

Once she has chosen a victim, the legend allows no escape.

Moral of the story - treat your wife well.
